Wedding Film Styles

Your wedding, your story, a journalistic approach to capturing that very special day…

As a photojournalist for the NYT papers in Florida in the 1980s, my editor Mike Archer told me, “If you ever bring in a grip-n-grin shot, you’re fired.” That was a stern warning and a valuable lesson – one that would stuck with me throughout my entire career. What Mike demanded, in no uncertain terms, was that I must always capture authentic, candid, moments in time. Posing inflicts a great deal of restrictions upon the subject of a photo or a film. There are certain times in wedding coverage when posing is acceptable, even necessary. But our goal is to also be ever-watchful to capture the fresh, unrehearsed and casual instances that are filled with emotion, surprise or even comedy.
